About Beyond the Dinner Table.

What should you expect from the content here? While I take full creative liberty to write what what’s on my heart and mind each week, primarily I’ll be covering topics on Intentional Motherhood, Intuitive Eating + Health-at-Every-Size (HAES), and Inspired discipleship.
So you may be wondering, why "Beyond the Dinner Table?"

When I got married back in 2010, I had plans to be the perfect housewife, which to me meant having a delicious (and of course nutritious) meal on the dinner table every single night. But then reality hit me. I somehow managed to marry the pickiest man on Earth! That’s an exaggeration, of course. But between his work and my university schedule, it felt as though it was impossible to make dinner on time, or sometimes even at all. Add a child into the mix—and dinner became even more of a challenge. To top it off, motherhood intensified disordered eating patterns that lingered from the teenage years. I felt like a complete failure as a “housewife”, mom, and especially as a dietitian.

But here’s the thing. I had it all wrong. I was basing my intrinsic worth on external factors. Then God started changing me and laid something on my heart...

My identity can’t be rooted in my daily performance as a mom, otherwise I’d receive a failing mark in some area or another. My ultimate purpose isn’t to be the perfect housewife. My significance doesn’t come from a flawless figure or my nutrition knowledge and dietetics skills. And, my value is especially not found in my ability (or inability for that matter) to make impeccable meals.

My identity is beyond the dinner table.

It’s found in Christ.

My worth isn’t based on what I do or don’t do... it’s what He has done for me. I’ve been redeemed. My life is being transformed. I am the daughter of the King. A child of God. He sees me as more precious than jewels.

If I live each day as God sees me, I’m not a complete failure when dinner consists of takeout Thai food (again) or my child has a temper tantrum in the grocery store or I don’t fit into my pre-pregnancy skinny jeans.

When my identity is in Christ, He helps me see who I am in Him and gives the strength to do the things that matter most.

And that’s why I’m writing here at Beyond the Dinner Table. My hope is that this isn’t just another nutrition blog full of must-do’s and dinner recipes...one where you leave feeling inadequate, body-shamed, and stuck in the comparison trap. Sure, I’ll share a recipe from time to time, but more so I’m praying that God will use me to share what I’m learning on my journey to encourage you on yours.

If this identity-in-Christ stuff is weirding you out right about now, that’s okay. I hope you stick around and keep reading anyways. There’s a place for you here. You, too, are valuable.

So what should you expect from the content here? While I take full creative liberty to write what’s on my heart and mind each week, primarily I’ll be covering topics on:
  • Intentional Motherhood,
  • Intuitive Eating (more in 2018!) + Health-at-Every-Size (HAES),
  • And, Inspired discipleship + living for Christ.

I am truly grateful you stopped by my little blog. I hope you feel at home here and leave encouraged to live a life beyond the dinner table.
