Back in high school, I believed I wasn’t smart enough because I needed to read textbooks and literature out-loud (or have it read to me) before I could grasp the words on the page. Moving on to university, I thrived the most when either I heard the lectures (sitting in front row, of course) or when I taught the information to others. Somewhere along the line I finally realized that I was an auditory learner. Once I made that connection, I’ve gravitated towards audiobooks, webinars, and podcasts ever since. That being said, today I’m sharing 3 of my favourite podcasts for you to discover!
Marriage After God
If you’re looking for a down-to-earth, real-deal couple to glean godly (and practical) wisdom from, Aaron and Jennifer Smith are it. I’ve been following Jennifer’s ministry (Unveiled Wife) for awhile and was thrilled when the podcast launched Spring of 2018. If you’ve had any conversations with me about podcasts in the last while, there’s no doubt that I mentioned this one.
Some topics they cover include:
I could go on and on listing favourite episodes, but I’ll let you do your own browsing! My recommendation is to start the podcast at the beginning and work your way through so you get to know their story a bit. But really, there’s so much good content in each and every episode, you can’t go wrong. Just pick one that speaks to you and enjoy!
Cultivate Your Life with Lara Casey
This podcast, which started airing at the beginning of this year, has honestly been a blessing to me. It’s not just another goal-setting podcast that leaves you unchanged and overwhelmed. Cultivate Your Life episodes are interwoven with scripture-based teaching and real-life anecdotes.
Lara sincerely has a heart of gold. One for the Lord. She truly seeks to help women stop living by accident, uncover good goals, and start living intentional lives. You know the kind of goals that matter in the big picture—not the ones that society is telling you to make—but God-centred goals that get you where you long to be when you’re 80 (with prayer and little by little progress along the way).
Here’s a look at some of the podcasts:
There’s so much to say about this podcast and non-profit ministry. I was introduced to Risen Motherhood by my sister-in-law a few weeks before I had my baby girl. (Side note: she’s already over two years old... how does that happen?!) In a day and age where mom culture is filled with commiserating and complaining about children, sister-in-laws Emily Jensen & Laura Wifler encourage fellow moms in the trenches to live out grace-filled, gospel-centred motherhoods. Their (usually) 20-minute episodes are so refreshing and make a sink full of dishes a bit more enjoyable.
Emily & Laura encourage moms by applying the four parts of the gospel (Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Consummation) to different parts of motherhood. They’ve also featured other moms who are trusting the Lord in their motherhood.
Here’s some of the episode topics (in no specific order):
And that leads to an announcement: I'm a part of the Risen Motherhood book launch team! In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing more on social media about Risen Motherhood and the book releasing September 3. (In return, I'm reading the e-book ahead of time and providing them with a review once it comes out!)
There’s so many more favourite podcasts I could add to this list, but I’ll save them for another day! Now it's your turn. What’s in your earbuds this summer? Share in the comments below! (I really enjoy them...)
