As you must know by all the cutesy stuffed animals and decadent chocolates overflowing in every supermarket, Valentine's Day is upon us. It's hard to believe this is my 10th year celebrating the holiday with my boyfriend-now-husband... and even crazier to think of how life has changed.
(Side note: If you're not in the mood for a sappy story... I give you permission to go ahead and skip ahead to the delicious recipe!)
Lately my husband and I have been getting a little too predictable in our dating life. After our two-year old is in bed, I’ll usually read, work on a project, or watch something on Netflix, and he will either join me or retire to bed early. If we get the chance to get out of the house at night sans said kid, we will typically just end up getting a bite to eat before making our way back home.
So in order to jazz up date night and add some spontaneity back into our relationship, my husband and I sat down and created this “Date Night Jar.” Basically each of us individually wrote down date night ideas on pieces of paper before stuffing them into a large jar we had on hand. (It’s even more fun to keep each other’s ideas as surprises). Then every week or so on “date night” all we have to do is draw an idea out of the jar and the activity for the night has been decided. No more wasting time contemplating what to do or where to eat that night!
When we created our Date Night Jar, I got a little more inventive and created five different date categories. This way we can choose a type of date based on our mood that day (or budget!). Here’s what I came up with:
