I love breakfast. I love breakfast food. I love breakfast food at dinner. And... I love dinner food at breakfast! Every so often I like to share on Instagram what I'm eating for breakfast and how I'm reusing supper leftovers the next morning (like Thursday's breakfast below!). So while some of the world is crazed with intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast, I'm sharing today what 7 days of breakfasts looks like for me. Keep in mind that I'm mostly a stay-at-home-mom, and I enjoy cooking. However, I hope this inspires you to get creative with breakfast! (And no shame if blog post makes you want to stick with your usual bowl of oatmeal and black coffee...)
Hi guys! Last week I launched my third year blogging at Beyond the Dinner Table with a post on four things to consider before quitting sugar or starting another restrictive diet. I felt refreshed after writing it as I’ve personally spent the last year reanalyzing the way I (and our culture) look at health and nutrition. The thought of NOT dieting and NOT eliminating some kind of “unhealthy” food is hard for most of us because society idolizes those who control their body through diets and weight loss... and shames those who don’t.
However, nutrition is so much more than counting macronutrients, eating superfoods, and burning calories. (And, it definitely isn’t about a perfect number on the scale.) Good nutrition stems from a healthy relationship with food, mind, and body. And, ultimately I believe that these healthy relationships begin with where we find our identity (...but please note this is based on my religious beliefs).
So that being said, if you’re like me and have done away with restrictive diets to focus on having healthy relationships with God, others, and yourself in 2018, here are some suggestions of what to do instead! After all, you’ll likely have a bunch more time and energy!
I know it’s tempting. You’ve just taken down your Christmas decorations (and thrown the tree to the curb if you’re like us...) and the sight of any more gingerbread houses or thumbprint cookies makes your stomach churn. To top it off, the skinny jeans you are wearing feel a little tighter this morning. And then out of nowhere, your favourite blogger posts a sugar-free challenge and a Facebook friend boasts about the “life-changing” detox they are starting up this year. It must be a sign!
Now, before you jump on the bandwagon and completely remove every ounce of refined sugar (or gluten or dairy or grain) from your diet, let me first offer a few considerations for you to nosh on for just a bit.
